Market Watch: Jean Troyke loses over $185,000 on sale

The 2,120-square-foot home has 4 bedrooms, 2.2 baths, a 2-car garage, a 2-level deck, fresh paint, new carpet, a fireplace, a walk-in pantry, new powder room, a large mud room with laundry, storage galore, fenced yard and a pool.

The purchase: In August 1990, Troyke and her late husband paid $316,500 for the home, or about $605,371 in today's dollars, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

The sale: According to Zillow, Troyke sold the home for $340,000 on Jan. 11, or approximately $185,371 less than the original purchase price, in today's dollars.

Troyke originally listed the home in early August 2018 for $420,000, but lowered the price mid-August  to $399,000.  In September, October and November 2018, she lowered the price to $380,000, $375,000 and $370,000, respectively.

The property taxes: Based on data compiled from Blockshopper.com and Zillow, Troyke paid $131,575 in property taxes between 2000 and 2017, or an estimated 31.33 percent of the sale price.
