Market Watch: Thomas & Lynne Brzezenski lose over $473,000 on sale of Northbrook home

The 4,500-square-foot home has 6 bedrooms, 5 baths, a 3-car garage, a gourmet kitchen with a butler's pantry, hardwood floors and a fully finished basement.

The purchase: In October 2004, the Brzezenskis paid $970,000 for the home, or almost $1.28 million in today's dollars, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The sale: According to Zillow, the Brzezenskis sold the home for $805,000 on Feb. 5, or roughly $473,997 less than the original purchase price, in today's dollars.

The Brzezenskis originally listed the home for $999,000 in May 2018 and lowered the price in June 2018 to $944,900.  In October 2018, they dropped the price again to $894,500.  It was last listed in December 2018 at $849,900.

The property taxes: Based on data compiled from Blockshopper.com and Zillow, the Brzezenskis paid $203,337 in property taxes between 2005 and 2017, or 25 percent of the sale price.
