Market Watch: Blackhawk goalie's family loses $186K on River North home
Illinois' highest-in-the-nation property taxes are eroding home equity and depressing home values across the state. This report is part of a Chicago City Wire series on recent home sales that demonstrate the consequences.
The home: 440 W. Superior St. in River North
In the gated City Club community, the home has four bedrooms, four baths, a Viking range, 10-foot ceilings, a third-floor family room and two rooftop decks. It is down the street from a townhome previously owned by actor Vince Vaughn.

Trevor Crawford and Judy Markhauser are the parents of Chicago Blackhawks' goalie Corey Crawford, and Sylvia Markhauser is his aunt.
The netminder purchased the River North townhome in February 2012 for $1.09 million, or $1.21 million in today's dollars. He sold it to his family members in 2016 for $1.50 million, or $1.64 million in today's dollars.
The purchase: According to Zillow and Blockshopper, the trio placed the townhome on the market for $1.45 million on Nov. 3, 2018.
The sale: Just weeks after it was listed, the home went under contract for its full asking price.
The property taxes: All told, Crawford and his family paid $134,120, or 9 percent of the asking price.
