About Jay

Jay Kinzler is a dedicated doctor and surgeon, Army Reserve Colonel, local government official, volunteer and family man. He and his wife Jennifer have lived in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, for 24 years along with daughter Allie and son Andrew.

Jay is hard working, dedicated to his community and passionate for the United States. He has proven himself to be a strong leader in local government, during his military career, his private medical practice, and as a member of many professional associations.

His drive for success and his results-oriented leadership skills make him a true man of action. Whether it’s in the operating room or representing the people of Illinois, Kinzler is a man you can count on.

Kinzler completed his undergraduate degree at Loyola University of Chicago, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He continued on at Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine, graduating in 1984. Jay completed his internship and residency at Loyola University Medical Center, specializing in urology. After completing his 6-year residency program, he subspecialized in renal transplantation, completing an additional year of a kidney transplant fellowship at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, University of Southern California.

Jay is a patriot and always wanted to serve in the military. He finally got his chance when he was sworn into the United States Army Reserve in November 2007. Jay now serves as a Colonel in the US Army Reserve and is assigned to Fort Benning where he has performed his annual training and worked the last several years.

Jay has been involved in many community activities through St. Petronille Church, Park District and the Home Owners Association of Danby Woods. He has enjoyed coaching his children’s sports teams as they grew up. At the Glen Ellyn Park District Jay has coached soccer, basketball, football and baseball programs. He was most active in the Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball Association (GEYBA) and has served in several leadership positions there. The Glen Ellyn Youth Baseball Association awarded him the “Larry Pecorella Award”: For Lifetime Achievement 2017 on April 4, 2017.

Jay is an Elmhurst Outpatient Surgery Center Board of Director and currently serves on the Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare Medical Executive Committee. He was elected Medical Staff President of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital on September 15, 2015 and now serves as the Immediate Past President. He is also on the Medical Staff Quality Oversight Committee of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital And the Physician Advisory Council (formally Physician Strategic Planning Council.)

Leadership in His Profession

During his career as a physician, he has served on several hospital committees including the Ethics Committee, the Quality Resource Management Committee of the Board of Trustees, the Surgical Review Committee and Cancer Registry committee.

Jay gained experience in the budget process as a member of the Board of Directors of the Elmhurst Physician Association and the Elmhurst Outpatient Surgery Center. In 2010, Jay was elected by fellow surgeons to be the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. As a board member for the Elmhurst Outpatient Surgery Center, he helped turn an underperforming venture into a profitable one and was re-elected by his peers twice to continue service in this role. Currently, Jay is on the Executive Board of the Chicago Urological Society (CSU). In 2008, CSU ran a $40,000 deficit. Through Jay’s efforts, as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice-President then as President CSU is now in surplus, demonstrating his ability to analyze problems and implement solutions, turning losses into gains.

IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Jay was elected to the Glen Ellyn Park District Board in April of 2009. Since his participation on the board over the last eight years, he has held the line on taxes. When President of the Park Board Glen Ellyn Park District received the Sunshine Award from the Illinois Policy Institute on 11-6-13 for achievements in government transparency.

As president he also achieved significant decreases in actual property taxes attributed to the park district and further projected decreases going forward. This being accomplished while having balanced budgets, achieving surplus to be used for future capital requirements, and improving programs and services for park district residents.

Jay served as a Commissioner of the Environmental Commission of the Village of Glen Ellyn for five years. He was the liaison for the Prairie Path and Great Western Trail clean up. He also helped develop improved guidelines for safe disposal of asbestos and organized the village’s “Recycle Extravaganza.”
