Barrett Davie, (State Senate, 29th District)
Barrett was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago where his father served as a Chicago police officer for 35 years. Barrett’s mom, a Polish immigrant, came through Ellis Island in the 1950’s. Barrett attended Fenwick High School in Oak Park on a Lawless Leadership Award Scholarship and then went off to Tulane University in New Orleans.
While at Tulane, Barrett played football for the Tulane Green Wave and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Earth Science. After graduation, Barrett moved to Washington, D.C. to work as a member of the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform investigative staff. He then returned to Chicago to attend the Chicago-Kent College of Law. Barrett served as the President of the Chicago-Kent Student Bar Association. During law school and while in private practice, Barrett worked to support the efforts of a number of early-stage businesses in Illinois. It was during this time that he co-founded sports marketing firm, In Stadium.
Barrett went on to serve as the company’s CEO from 2003 to 2008. While CEO, he developed a management team, raised equity capital and doubled revenues for five consecutive years leading to significant investments by a number of venture capital firms. Barrett continues to serve in a strategic advisory capacity, and as a board member for the company, leading the development of the largest live event sports network in the country with over 425 participating pro and college teams.
Barrett married his wife, Sam, in 2006. In 2008, they settled in Sam’s hometown of Lake Forest. They have 3 young children ages 10, 8 and 5 who attend the Lake Forest public schools. Sam is also an entrepreneur, currently building a business in the furniture consignment industry. In addition to a myriad of philanthropic activities and community involvement, Barrett has spent significant time over the last decade serving as board member and chairman of Bernie’s Book Bank and The Gorton Community Center of Lake Forest. He and his family are active members of the Church of The Holy Spirit of Lake Forest.
